What are dust allergens?

Dust allergens are substances found in dust. They may include:

  • Fabric fibers.
  • Lint.
  • Feathers.
  • Stuffing materials.
  • Animal protein (dander, saliva, urine, and body oils).
  • Bacteria.
  • Mold and fungus spores.
  • Food particles.
  • Plants.
  • Insects and their waste.


What is a dust mite allergen?

Dust mites are microscopic organisms that normally live throughout homes and businesses. The mites and their waste products thrive in:

  • Draperies.
  • Stuffed animals.
  • Bedding, pillows, and mattresses.
  • Upholstered furniture.
  • Carpets.
  • Air (but only right after vacuuming or sweeping).
