El ardor de estómago es una afección frecuente. Por lo general se produce después de un atracón de comida o un día estresante en el trabajo. El ardor de estómago puede hacerlo sentir mal e incluso perturbarle el sueño. Si siente ardor de estómago más de dos veces por semana es posible que tenga una afección llamada ERGE. ERGE significa Enfermedad por Reflujo Gastroesofágico. Gastroesofágico se refiere al estómago y al esófago. El esófago es el tubo que trasporta la comida desde la boca hasta el estómago. Reflujo significa regresar. El reflujo gastroesofágico se produce cuando el ácido estomacal y la comida regresan desde el estómago hacia el esófago.
