Patient Stories: Pam, Double Hip ReplacementI was experiencing achiness in my hips, pain, stiffness, and getting up from sitting into a standing position orgetting out of the car. It was like a moment of standing up, straightening out … take a breath, and then I couldwalk.I was pretty relieved and pretty happy.Relieved that someone finally gave me a good answer as to why I was feeling so crappy. And gave me theoptions that were available.I figured it was going to suck for six to eight weeks. And then there was going to be a certain amount of painand recovery. But why do it twice when you can just do it once? I went for it.I believe a little bit later in the day the physical therapist came back and we went on a little bit longer walk outof the room.They want you to put your full weight bearing as you walk. You're just using the walker to kind of balance andkind of steady, but the weight is on your legs that soon. Kind of cool.Well, I'm pain free. I don’t have hip pain, once in a while a muscle might be a little cranky but I feel really good.I'm more stable. So I'm not afraid that if I get down, you know, halfway kneeling I won't be able to get up againand, you know, I won't topple over or anything. I had a lot of trouble with stability before.I don't mind working hard for a goal and to do something. So I said, well, in September, first, I want to playtennis. I want to be able to play tennis.I play doubles. I don't have to be Wimbledon, but, you know, just to have fun playing tennis. And then inNovember, my family is planning a trip to Disney. So I have to be able to walk and I have to be able to walk alot and I have to be comfortable doing that.So they knew that.
